The Professional Video Alliance has announced that Barco Residential has become the first projector manufacturer to acheive PVA Certification for a broad range of its product lines.
Like the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) and THX, the PVA is a third-party organization known for training video calibration professionals (under the aegis of LionAV) as well as for its product certification programs. PVA member companies include well-known brands in the video calibration world such as Portrait Displays, Murideo, Lumagen, Klein Instruments, Jeti, Home Acoustics Alliance, and the International Colorist Academy, among others. The PVA was founded in 2018 and is said to "offer cooperation between manufacturer members that share best practices and support each other at trade shows and other events."

The PVA said that eight Barco model lines including Medea, Bragi, Balder, Hodr, Njord, Freya, Freya+, and Nerthus were tested at Barco headquarters in Belgium over the course of a week and that Barco was presented with its certification at ISE this year. As previously reported a year ago when it was announced at ISE 2023 that Screen Research had become the first screen manufacturer to have its products PVA Certified, the PVA doesn't publicly share details of its testing regimen. But PVA founder Greg Loewen has said that the focus of testing is to provide independent verification of stated specs and performance claims. A statement announcing the Barco certification noted that "Products earning the "PVA Certified" designation are guaranteed to have met or exceeded all manufacturer specifications and delivered the stated reference-level performance under simulated conditions."
In the statement, Loewen said "Barco Residential is a market leader through innovation and its pursuit of excellence. We applaud Barco's choice to undergo third-party testing and receive certification to further elevate its positioning. The PVA Certified designation is an added guarantee that will assure Barco's customers that their investment is well placed."

Barco's Andy Jones, Business Development Manager for Cinema, stated "At Barco, we believe calibration and standardization are the key ingredients for a professional projection system. It is what separates truly great home theater solutions from the rest, creating a spectacular experience every time. This certification again proves Barco's dedication to this topic."
PVA also says it will offer integrator training specifically for Barco Residential products; dealers can contact their Barco distributors for more information.
