My 1st 4k projector
Review by Lacmac

I recently bought this projector 2nd hand and so far I'm impressed with it. I have a cheap projector sheet from Amazon and the picture quality is fantastic. Especially in 4k, even HD movies look much better than me previous projector. I have not tried gaming on it yet. I found some good advice on AVS forum which someone posted settings for USER mode which made the contrast much better. Darks are now very dark. Unless I have some lights on, I watch everything in lampsave. I do not see any difference from lampsave to eco. I replaced the benq android stick with a Amazon 4k firestick, works brilliantly, only downside is that the cover does not fit back on. The onboard single speaker isn't good at all. I bought a cheap Majority soundbar. I had read reviews saying its useless to use a soundbar and if connected via Bluetooth it would suffer from voice lag. That was not the case, i connect through Bluetooth and sound quality is great with no lag. The firestick remote controls the on /off on the projector and the sound on the soundbar. So I don't really need to use the projector remote unless I need to change the settings. The reviewer who said it is not easy to change the bulb is mistaken. Only 2 side screws and the cover slides off. The plastic sheet over the lamp is replaceable, there is a tab to pull it off and can be reused again.

Good on paper, but with some significant issues

Using for a mix of games and general TV via Chromecast (non-4K). Picture quality is generally good, but does suffer from quite noticeable upscaling defects and flickering brightness even on static paused images (especially greys). In a dark room, full panel white in normal is painfully bright, and in general viewing conditions quite good. Inbuilt smart functionality is ok, about what you expect, however while it supports 4K content, there is no way to get anything other than stereo out of the device. It supports eARC in stereo only, and has no SPDIF or similar output. The quoted 4000 hours bulb life is for Smart Eco mode and not Normal, which feels like a con. However, ours suffered from multiple failures of the smart functionality, and is on its second return to Scan Computers (which has been a pain!). The light path isn't sealed, as we've had a spider's web appear, and highly reflective dust - you can't easily take the bulb out either, due to a plastic seal over it (one assumes a new bulb comes with a replacement).

Everything I Needed!!!
Review by Michael

This has everything I needed, especially for my PS5. Native 4K, 60hz (120hz at 1080p) and short throw. Excellent for movies as well. I have a 110 inch screen and the projector sits about 7 feet from the screen. Also HDR is wonderful! I upgraded from a Viewsonic 1080p gaming projector and I am happy I made the switch! It comes with an Android dongle, but I use my 4K Firestick and the picture is amazing. Low video game input lag as well. Pull the trigger on this one… For those who say “where’s the 4K 120hz?” Look guys, the tech isn’t there yet for projectors. It may come soon, but for now, THIS IS THE ONE!!! I bought this from the BENQ website before it was available on Amazon and I’ve had it for a month. Buy it!

Just a few quick thoughts

Gaming image is fantastic Played Jade Empire on XBOX Series X - upscaling was great. Modern generation games are stunning. At present 3D function mostly isnt working as it doesnt support most of the common 3d outputs - practical terms my PS4 doesnt recognize it as a 3d Projector Android TV is fine - Dosney Plus ok - no netflix Blutooth audio from ATV is laggy Main speakers sound is fine but not so loud - better than "casual" quality Happy I bought this but you could cetainly wait until a firmware upgrade especually re 3d support
