LG Electronics has upgraded five models in its ProBeam laser projector line-up with significant new capabilities and rechristened these its RG series.
Starting with the short-throw BU53RG launched last November, which replaces the BU53PST we reviewed last year, a total of five models ranging from 5,000 to 6,000 ANSI lumens in brightness and featuring either 4K or WUXGA resolution have all been updated with LG's webOS Signage 6.0 platform.
Developed first for LG's commercial flat panel displays, webOS Signage appeared in the company's new flagship ProBeam BU70QGA in early 2023. The integrated platform provides a range of capabilities for managing and deploying signage content from the cloud as well as the ability to tap a wide selection of third-party signage apps. A new IP control option helps facilitate easier remote management, LG says.
Additionally, the revised models include modernized aspect ratio control to handle widescreen formats such as 21:9 or 16:6 that are being widely employed now for new virtual meeting environments such as Microsoft Teams. Other updates include the addition of PIP (picture-in-picture) and PBP (picture-by-picture) capabilities, and new advanced edge adjustment and warping options with up to 25-point adjustments (along with image rotation) to help simplify installation.
LG says the new RG models will fully replace the existing models of the same number, and pricing for each model will remain steady or drop, with the key sacrifice being the elimination of integrated HDBaseT ports.
The five new RG models include the ProBeam BU53RG (4K UHD, 5,000 ANSI lumens, short-throw, $3,799); ProBeam BU60RG (4K UHD, 6,000 ANSI lumens, $4,800); ProBeam BU50RG (4K UHD, 5,000 ANSI lumens, $4,100); ProBeam BF60RG (WUXGA, 6,000 ANSI lumens, $3,600); and the ProBeam BF50RG (WUXGA, 5,000 ANSI lumens, $2,900). All are said to be available now.
