Optoma has announced the GT3500HDR, an affordable, single-chip DLP 1080p ultra-short throw entertainment projector suitable for home theater and gaming.

A replacement for the aging GT5600 introduced in 2018, the GT3500HDR trades its predecessor's lamp for a 20,000-30,000 hour, dust-resistant DuraCore laser light engine rated to deliver 3,800 lumens (of unspecified measurement type) and also adds the abilities to accept 4K/60Hz signals and handle HDR decoding. It carries along the GT5600's ability to play 1080p 3D content.
Furthermore, the GT3500HDR boasts the low input lag desired by serious gamers, specified as low as 8.6 milliseconds for 1080p/120Hz signals and 17 ms for 4K/60 and 1080p/60 with the projector's Gaming mode activated.
With its lens offering a 0.25:1 throw ratio, the GT3500HDR throws a 100-inch 16:9 image from less than one foot from the projection surface, and is said by Optoma to support images up to 120-inch diagonal (though it specs site a range from 80 to 130 inches, with throw distances ranging from 7.9 to 15.7 inches. inches). Four corner correction and both horizontal and vertical keystone correction are on hand for perfecting image geometry and could be especially handy for quick setups made possible by the unit's compact, lightweight chassis. At 12.9 x 4.3 x 12.9 inches and 8.6 pounds, the GT3500HDR is 28% smaller than the GT5600 and is also made with up to 50% PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) plastics.

The GT3500HDR's rear connection panel offers a pair of HDMI 2.0 connectors, both able to accept 4K inputs, a USB-A power output (5v/1.5A), a 3-pin VESA 3D Sync output for use with an outboard emitter, and a 3.5 mm analog audio output jack. RJ45 LAN and RS232C connectors are provided for control. The projector is compatible with Extron IP Link, Crestron Connected, and PJLink control systems. There is no onboard streaming platform or HDMI ARC facilities, and no wireless capabilities on board.
The Optoma GT3500HDR is available now at the estimated street price of $1,499, initially at online retailer B&H Photo Video.
