Targeting education and corporate environments with a, flexible, high-brightness 3LCD solution, Panasonic Connect has announced the new PT-MZ882 series of laser projectors.

A modernized update to the PT-MZ880 series introduced and reviewed favorably by ProjectorCentral in 2021, the new series uses the same family of lenses to make for easy retrofits, and though it largely shares the same specs, it brings some notable new features.

To begin, brightness has been marginally increased, with models offered in 8,200 (PT-MZ882), 7,500 (PT-Z782), and 6,500 (PT-MZ682) ISO21118 lumens, up from 8,000, 7,000, and 6000 ISO lumens in the prior series. And while the cosmetic and cabinet size and weight are approximately the same at 22.1 x 8.8 x 17.3 inches (WHD) and 41 pounds with the supplied lens, the new series is more eco-friendly, using 10% recycled resins and minimizing waste through a reduction in packaging and related accessories.

Energy efficiency has also been improved, with maximum power consumption on the brightest 8,200 lumen model dropping from 490 watts to 465 watts; Panasonic is claiming an 8% efficiency improvement bolstered by a new Auto Power On function that should also save energy over the long run. Minimum rated fan noise from the already quiet MZ880 series has been slightly reduced with the MZ882 chassis, with a rating of 34 dB in Normal/Eco modes and 26 dB in Quiet mode, down from 34 dB/27 dB in the prior model.

More critical to today's schools and corporate meeting rooms is the inclusion in the new models of 21:9 and 27:9 aspect ratio options, which support wide conferencing formats like Microsoft Teams Front Row that allow more real estate for viewing remote participants alongside shared content.

Other key features that made the PT-MZ880 popular have been carried over, including the same supplied Standard Zoom lens with a 1.61:1-2.76:1 throw ratio and powered zoom, focus and lens shift. Imaging is courtesy of three 0.76-inch, WUXGA-resolution (16:10 aspect) LCD chips. Panasonic's Power Shine laser engine carries the usual 20,000 hours of rated time to half life, or 24,000 hours in Eco mode. The same robust connection panel has been carried over as well, including three up-to-date HDMI inputs that accept 4K signals and support CEC control from compatible sources, and a dedicated RJ-45 port for Panasonic's Digital Link HDBaseT or network, plus a dedicated RJ-45 for network only. The projectors are compatible with Art-Net DMX, PJLink, and Crestron Connected control systems, and with Panasonic's Smart Projector Control app.

The PT-MZ882 series projectors are available in either black or white to match decor as needed.
